Nelson C. Walker II, MD

Dr. Walker joined Mansfield Family Practice in 1980. He had previously lived in the Mansfield area in the 1970’s prior to attending the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. In addition to being dedicated to patient care at MFP, he has been very involved with the Connecticut Academy of Family Physicians, serving as member of the Board and President for a number of years. He was the editor of The Connecticut Family Physician for over 10 years and was on the Executive Committee for the Core Content Review of Family Physicians. He has been a member of the Connecticut State Medical Society Committee on Medical Aspects of Sports, and has written articles for their publication Sports Medicine. For 15 years Dr. Walker was Chief of the section of Family Practice at Windham Community Memorial Hospital and has also served on numerous committees. He helped establish the local Hospice program in the 1980’s and served on the advisory board until 2003. As Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Dr. Walker provides clinical training of 3rd year medical students. With his wife Joanne he raised three sons and was very involved with youth soccer in Mansfield for many years. He enjoys outdoor activities including canoeing, sailing, skiing and snowshoeing.
