CDC Recommendations for COVID-19 3rd shot

The protection provided by Covid-19 vaccines appears to wane over time, especially for people 65 and older.

The CDC and the FDA have both approved a third COVID-19 shot for immunocompromised patients.

The CDC recommendation applies to people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised:

  • Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

Please visit the CDC’s website for more information Click here

The FDA issued an emergency use authorization to Pfizer for boosters in people 65 and older, those with underlying conditions putting them at high risk of severe disease, and for people whose jobs put them at high risk of exposure. More information can be found here.
